Absence Policy: (Per PND Faculty Handbook)
Short Absence (1-5 school days) Guidelines:
A student will have the same number of school days absent to make up assignments, quizzes, or tests.
Daily work assigned before the absence is due the school day the student returns to class.
5% will be deducted from assignments for each day it is late. Beginning on day 11, it is a 0.
A student will have 2 school days after returning from an absence to schedule a day and time to take a missed quiz or test.
If a student fails to take the test at the agreed upon time, then the student's grade will be reduced 10% for each additional school day.
Students who do not make up a quiz or test within 10 school days of returning from their absence will receive a zero.
Students who leave school early for a school sponsored activity or athletic even are required to turn in assignments before they leave for the event. Students will make up any test/quiz missed the following day.
Students with unexcused absences will not be given credit for missed assignments, quizzes, or tests.
Missing class one day before a scheduled test or quiz will not excuse a student from taking the scheduled test on time, with the class.
YOU and only YOU are responsible for making up missed assignments, quizzes, and tests. Please see me before or after class to schedule a time to make-up work. Missed quizzes and tests will be taken before school, during advisory, or after school - not during class.
Hall Pass Policy:
Students who abuse the privilege of leaving the classroom will be restricted from doing so.
Homework Policy:
Assignments for the current unit can be found on the class wiki page at www.pndapgov.wikispaces.com. The assignments for the entire unit and the unit study guide will be posted on the wiki on the first day we begin the unit in class.
All written assignments are to be completed in ink, on loose-leaf paper (no fringe), and have a complete heading (name, date, class period, and assignment).
Assignments submitted via email must contain a subject.
Any work not turned in on the school day/time specified by the teacher is considered late if the student is in attendance. 5% will be deducted from assignments for each day it is late. Beginning on day 11, the grade is a zero. (PND Faculty Handbook pp. 75-77)
Your work is something to be proud of! Do not share it with other students. Cheating and plagiarizing will be handled according to pp. 62-64 of the PND Student Handbook.
Tardy Policy:
Any student who is not in their assigned seat when the bell rings will be considered tardy to class, unless the student has a valid pass. Passes must be obtained before the student arrives to class.
Students will be allowed TWO “free” tardies per trimester. Any further tardies will result in a detention.
Test Correction Policy:
Students may make corrections to tests and quizzes before or after school in the Admissions Office. Corrections may not be made during advisory.
Corrections must be completed by the assigned date, usually within one week of receiving the graded assessment.
Students who make corrections accurately will have 50% of the question value added to their original score.
Technology Policy:
A student’s laptop may be used for educational purposes, including taking notes, reading the e-text, visiting the class wiki, conducting research, or working on assignments. Use of the computer for purposes irrelevant to American Government will not be permitted.
Misuse of the computer will result in a loss of computer rights for this class.
Students are responsible for making sure their computer is charged and ready for use in class.
Any student whose cell phone is visible during class will be asked to put it at the front of the classroom for the remainder of class.
All students will be asked to turn in their cell phones in the front of the classroom upon entering the classroom.
